The constantly in flux earth, shown with varied and dynamic weather patterns over the global surface. I grew up exploring real globes - the kind you can spin and touch. The earth's revolutions as well as the revolutions of storm systems all at the same moment kept me enthralled. So much of the earth being made up of that stunning teal water and how it influences our climate, all while hurdling through space - complexity beyond my ability to grasp it all.

I am well aware that the United States is not at the center of the universe. This is my tribute to the European, African, Middle East and so on nations; all of us, together - not one superior to another.

My understanding is that fifty years ago, when the Apollo astronauts looked back at the earth from the moon, they were profoundly struck by the beauty of the tiny, fragile, blue planet earth. And so it was.

Preservation Through ART! PAPA Exhibition, Asheville! 9/16 - 6 - 8 pm

Favorite people (you know who you are)! This Thursday from 6 - 8 pm at the Wedge, 5 Foundy St., Asheville is the opening of the free show, Preservation Through Art! Fabulous art will be offered for sale, much of which will go towards preserving wonderful, historic sites captured by current plein air painters! You must come! The first offering of art will be from Chimney Rock, Lovers Leap (Hot Springs), French Broad scenes and Pisgah View from Biltmore.

Opening Friday, Oct. 5!

“Manifesto: Blue Marble Earth”, 12X12”, for sale

SO happy to report that my two pieces were saved from Hurricane Florence by the wonderful folks at https://www.cravenarts.org/

As the storm approaching, the curator and helpers took the show down and stored it in a bank vault. The town, New Berlin, was swamped with water but the works were safe, secure and dry! Cannot thank the people at cravenarts.org enough.

The gallery opening will be Friday, Oct. 5 and these pieces are available then! Thanks for your interest, hope you can participate.

Be Safe; What Has Florence Wrought?

Unfortunately the fate of these two pieces is unknown. My gallery opening was to be Friday, Sept. 14 in New Bern, North Carolina. This town was severely impacted by Hurricane Florence, as was, I’m pretty sure, the gallery, which was downtown. Here’s hoping for the best for the residents and my fellow artists! And if you see them floating by, please give me a ring…..

Bank of the Arts Competition Acceptance!

Pleased to announce this piece has been accepted into the national juried show, "Bank of the Arts." Almost 600 works were entered, only a few over 100 were accepted.

About the painting: That moment when you sense a nasty storm about to reach you, but you have no intention of moving. The electricity is in the air, there's no where to go, yet still you can't move. This is an acrylic painting, 12X12", original with pouring and hand painting.

"Grandfather Mountain Adoration" Work Completed!

There is something so satisfying about working with someone who has commissioned your work. The gift of having their trust to complete a vision is priceless. This work began with a trip up the Blue Ridge Parkway to the Grandfather Mountain area. I hiked extensively, capturing reference photos and a good sense of what the mountain was about.  Just this morning, the commissioner commented: 

It’s beautiful and we love it! It’s going to look great in our living room.
Thank you so much. 

Grateful, thrilled and touched by the whole process.

Fireflies: Study of fireflies in June

The fireflies migrate to the tops of the oaks after about 9:00 pm. I wish I knew what they were planning. It's been humid, hot and the days filled with downpours, one after the other. Maybe they're trying to escape the earth? 4X6" on archival canvas board.
