Cross Sectional Earth (Mixed media, 16 X 20")

$1,280.00

Deeply moved by natural earth forces, I started this series with a new approach to applying fluid paint to landscapes. It’s become more entrenched then that, with a look at the primordial forces beneath the mountains, trees and oceans. It’s a consideration of the fact that humans can’t control everything, but that we can affect the earth in a profound way.

Laying many washes of acrylics, I use a wedge and rapidly, intuitively adding and subtracting, balancing and stretching. After a while, it's almost like I'm almost a part of the earth-shaping forces shifting in response to what's happening above and below the earth's surface.

Lately I've been incorporating golds, coppers and silvers to enhance the striations and emphasize the rocklike formations. Just like with the evolution of the earth - there aren't hard and fast rules. And if there were, I'd probably break them anyway.
