Birds Eye Summer Spruce (Oil, framed, 16 X 20")
Birds Eye Summer Spruce (Oil, framed, 16 X 20")
A row of seven spruces has begged for years to be painted. The rich mid-summer colors surround the limbs and evergreens, creating a startling formal contrast and a study in design.
The palette is a new one - I've added transparent red oxide, yellow ochre and permanent sap green - which is what the scene screamed out for. A recent heavy rain prompted the greening up of the mountains.
I allowed the strokes to permeate every area, which is rich with texture and interest.
My work is best known for its unique ability to show the moment of experience, and then interpret, the extraordinary influence of the natural world. My paintings reflect a deep sensitivity heightened by an urgent sense that that world is under siege.
